  • My comprehensive training was through a contemporary Pilates education program and I’ve taught hundreds of classes while studying under and working with a classically trained instructor. This resulted in adopting a blend of styles into my teaching, merging the Classical and Contemporary methods to create an experience that remains true to Pilates while being accessible and adaptable to varying fitness levels.

My cues are verbal and I provide form corrections, rarely demonstrating the exercises myself in favor of hands-on adjustments. I stick with the classical exercises and do not go “off book” and create completely new exercises that are not Pilates. However, I use props and provide progressions, variations, or modifications. I keep the Classical order and method in mind when creating sequences, but I vary the number of repetitions or order of exercises to meet specific needs or create variety in flows.

If this sounds like a teaching style you’d enjoy, please reach out.

  • Private classes are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Friday mornings and can be scheduled from the Schedule page or by contacting me directly.

  • Your first private session will start with a discussion of goals and a quick assessment of posture, alignment, mobility, flexibility and balance. Based on this assessment, I’ll design a custom exercise program taking into account both your body’s needs and your goals for starting the Pilates program.

During the remainder of the session, you will begin to work on exercises chosen specifically for the needs of your body. Depending on those needs, the exercises may be performed on the mat, reformer, chair or tower, and may include props, such as a ball, bands, weights, or foam roller.

Future sessions will not start with an assessment and the full 55-minutes will be spent on exercises, but we will revisit the original assessment takeaways at future intervals to check in on your progress.

  • Wear clothing that is comfortable and breathable for exercise. Clothing that is form-fitting is preferred so I can accurately assess your form, but your comfort is priority.

Some exercises may involve lifting the legs, so wearing leggings or bike shorts under baggy shorts might be a good idea for modesty. No shoes are permitted in the studio (but accommodations can be made for certain injuries and conditions.) Some people like to wear grippy socks, but bare feet are fine too!

  • Just bring yourself and your water bottle!
The studio has mats, equipment, towels, cushions and everything else you’d need. Of course, you are welcome to bring your own towel, mat, or cushion if you prefer.

  • The machines, or apparatus, were invented by Joseph Pilates as part of the exercise system he designed. Most of the apparatus use springs to provide resistance or stability, and these were designed to provide support, build strength, and achieve balanced muscle development so individuals could be physically active despite injuries or other conditions.

Some of the apparatus provide elevation that can be easier for some individuals than getting to a seated or laying down position on a floor mat. They also allow for exercises positioned in different planes and with different relationships to gravity, allowing you to work muscles in a way that you may not be able to do standing or on the mat.

Use of the apparatus may be prescribed as part of your specialized program. If you have any concerns or preferences, I can take it into account with designing your program.
